Description

Vounaki Marina is a small harbour facility located on the Ionian coast of Greece, approximately one mile south of Palairos harbour in the Inland Sea between Lefkas island and the Greek mainland. The marina operates 70 berths with depths ranging from 2.0 to 5.0 metres throughout the harbour. When approaching Vounaki Marina, sailors can use the extensive club resort housing the marina as a navigational aid. The breakwater becomes visible as you sail closer and is illuminated at night, providing protection from all wind directions. Caution is required near the entrance where buoys mark areas used by jolly boats, as water depth is very low in this zone. The marina is primarily operated as a base for charter operations, originally by the Sunsail Group and later taken over by Neilson. Since Neilson's takeover, the marina policy has changed significantly, with transit guests no longer welcomed as the facility is reserved exclusively for their own charter fleet. Previously, visiting yachts were accepted but with restrictions on busy handover days, typically weekends, when arrivals were often turned away. When visiting yachts were accepted, they berthed on a long L-shaped pontoon or along the breakwater quay as directed by marina staff. All berths feature laid moorings for secure mooring. Marina facilities include modern services expected at contemporary marinas. Sanitary facilities with showers and toilets are positioned on the eastern quay for convenient access. Fuel is available at the bunker pier located at the northern entrance to the marina. The marina belongs to a larger club resort complex that is part of the charter operation infrastructure. Due to current operational policies favouring the charter fleet, sailors seeking overnight berths in the area should consider alternative options such as nearby Palairos harbour, though this facility also experiences increased activity during weekends. The location in the protected Inland Sea between Lefkas and the mainland provides a strategic position for charter operations while offering shelter from open sea conditions.
