Description

Port Milatos Beach is a town pier in Milatos Beach, Lassithi, Crete, Greece, located at coordinates 35°19'11'' N, 25°33'42'' E. Milatos is located 34km northwest of Agios Nikolaos and 16km east of Hersonissos, on the western outskirts of Mirabello province. This seaside village has retained many traditional features and hosts an important fishing port. Berthing and Facilities: Today, Milatos is touristically developed and hosts an IMPORTANT FISHING PORT. The next beach is located INSIDE THE HARBOR (Limani), near the taverns of the village - a small sandy beach, quite well-organized. This beach picks up most visitors, as the WATER IS ALWAYS CALM and is suitable even for children. Market and restaurants available in the village. The harbor provides basic shelter, though primarily serves fishing boats and local traffic. Historical and Natural Features: The area is famous for the CAVE MILATOS located close to the village, where in 1823 a LARGE NUMBER OF LOCALS WERE MASSACRED BY THE OTTOMANS - a significant historical site. The surrounding area is full of ANCIENT OLIVE GROVES and the coast features many small rocky coves. 1km north is the seaside settlement called Beach of Milatos (Paralia Milatou). Approximately 1km east, at position Pigada, you'll find SMALL ISOLATED BAYS with narrow strips of sand, surrounded by HIGH VERTICAL CLIFFS - ideal for isolation, although waves are usually very high. The main beach of Milatos (just before harbor) is fairly large with pebbles and rocks, unorganized but close to village amenities, also influenced by waves. Website: www.cretanbeaches.com/en/sea-tourism/east-crete-beaches-lassithi/milatos-beaches. VHF channel not specified. This is primarily a fishing port and local tourist destination rather than a major yacht harbor, but offers authentic Cretan atmosphere and historical interest.
