Description

Port Limenas Chersonisou is a town pier in Limenas Chersonisou, Heraklion, Crete, Greece, located at coordinates 35°19'18'' N, 25°23'35'' E. Hersonissos Limenas is a well-organized resort located 27km east of Heraklion with a population of around 3,000 people. As its Greek name suggests, the resort is built on a small cape and blessed with glorious sandy beaches. Berthing and Facilities: The port serves this VERY POPULAR HOLIDAY RESORT and can get QUITE BUSY during SUMMER MONTHS. Well serviced with hotels, restaurants, night clubs, and shops, including some very expensive designer shops selling jewellery and fashion. ATM, car rental, electricity, market, restaurants, water, and weather info available. Phone: +30 289 702 9202 and +30 289 702 3111. Website: www.hersonissosport.gr. Excellent facilities for provisioning and crew changes. The port provides good access to all resort amenities. Historical and Cultural Context: Historians believe that the area has been POPULATED SINCE PREHISTORIC TIMES and in ANCIENT TIMES was the SEAPORT OF ANCIENT LYTTUS - significant historical importance. The village of Hersonissos (3km inland) seems oblivious to the busy tourist centre that has grown up on the coast just a few km away, maintaining its traditional character. The modern resort combines ancient history with contemporary tourism infrastructure, making it an interesting blend of old and new Crete. The resort's location on a small cape provides some natural protection, and the sandy beaches are among Crete's most popular. VHF channel not specified. While the port can be crowded during peak season, the excellent facilities and central location on Crete's north coast make it a convenient stop for yachts needing provisions, repairs, or crew changes. This is one of Crete's major tourist hubs with comprehensive services.
