Description

Relitto di Pomonte, Elba, Toscana, Italy, is near the Ogliera Rock opposite the small beach of Pomonte. On January 10th 1972 the Italian freighter Elviscot ran onto the rocks; the crew was uninjured. Part of the ship was removed and the remainder sunk. Today the stern, bridge, and part of the side bow lie on the sandy seabed east of Ogliera Rock at 8–12 metres depth, with the vessel on its side and stern facing the open sea. The shallow water and limited currents make the wreck accessible, but care is required. The bridge is visible, the upper opening allows entry, experts can descend via the funnel to the engine room, and two stern openings lead along a corridor back to the bridge with light filtering through portholes.
