Description

Afales is the large bay north of Ithaca with many pebbled beaches and, on its eastern side, Platia Ammos, the only white‑sand beach on Ithaca, accessible only by boat. Paralia Afales offers crystal clear, azure water, and the sea surface here is almost always completely smooth. The beach and most of the bottom are covered with small white pebbles, giving underwater visibility up to about 40 meters. In the heart of Afales bay is a series of pebbled beaches with rocks and turquoise waters, with steep bare cliffs on one side and lush vegetation on the other. Trees such as olives, cypresses, pines and shrubs descend to the sea. The small, sheltered bay of Paralia Frikes is considered one of the best spots on the island to swim.
