Description

Chalki ponton is a town pier in Chalki, South Aegean, Greece, located at coordinates 36°13'22'' N, 27°36'48'' E. While the setting of this small Dodecanese island is magnificent, the pontoon facility itself presents significant challenges for anchoring, making alternative anchorage preferable for most yachts. Berthing and Facilities: The PLACE IS MAGNIFICENT but the PONTON IS POOR - scenic location but substandard infrastructure. Place for around 5 YACHTS STERN-TO on the concrete. The BOTTOM HAS MANY LINES AND CHAINS that FOUL ANCHOR - serious anchoring difficulties. THIS IS NOT A GOOD PONTON - honest assessment from experienced cruisers. RECOMMENDATION: If you don't need to go there, TRY ANCHOR INSTEAD in the NORTH-EAST SITE from ponton - better holding and fewer fouling issues. Berthing capacity: 5 yachts, max length 15m, max draft 2.4m. Water available but limited facilities. Chalki island offers magnificent scenery, crystal-clear waters, and authentic Greek island atmosphere. The main village (Nimborio) features beautiful neoclassical mansions, excellent tavernas, and a relaxed pace of life. Facilities include ATM, diving center, market, and restaurants. Despite the poor pontoon, Chalki is worth visiting for its unspoiled beauty and tranquil atmosphere - just plan to anchor in the northeast rather than using the pontoon. The island is famous for its sponge-diving heritage and spectacular beaches accessible by boat. VHF channel not specified. Note: Survey the northeast anchorage carefully and use appropriate scope given the clean bottom in that area compared to the fouled pontoon area.
