Description

Vai Beach, Lassithi, Crete, Greece, is famous for the large palm grove of Cretan Date Palms, the largest in Europe with about 5000 trees. The sandy beach has whitish sand and flat turquoise waters, with smooth rocks in places and small islets offshore. The palm grove is a conservation area open only during daylight, and the beach is slightly organized with umbrellas, showers, water sports, and a canteen. Nearby are smaller sandy beaches north and south of Vai, and the Toplou Monastery owns the region.
