Torre della Finanza - Sassari - Piana - Italy Anchorage in Sassari

Torre della Finanza stands on Isola Piana between Stintino and Asinara. The fortress is in a state of neglect, with collapsed vaults and other damaged parts. Built in November 1531 by a resolution of the civic council of Sassari to protect coral boats and ships bound for Porto Torres, the works were completed in 1596 at a cost of 2817 Cagliari. The watchtower had an Alcalde, an artilleryman, four soldiers, and two cannons. In 1637 it was involved during a French attack that landed at Asinara and moved toward Isola Piana. After the end of the tower administration, it was garrisoned by the Finance Office until 1950 and communicated with nearby towers.
