Description

The island of Agios Andreas off the northwestern coast of Zakynthos holds the ruins of the Old Monastery of Agios Andreas and remains of its fortification. The small island and a nearby islet form a group called Diaporia. The monastery was founded in 1595 by Ioannis Theodosis, flourished for about 100 years, and was then abandoned due to pirate raids. It is built with stones from the island and mortar as binding material.
