Description

Port Palaiochora is a relatively quiet harbour located in Chania, Crete. The western jetty offers water and electricity connections for visiting vessels. The wharf provides a depth of 3 meters along its length. Mooring options include stern-to, bow-to, and alongside configurations, all offering reliable protection regardless of weather conditions. Depending on prevailing wind conditions, boats can find anchorage in the bays situated on either side of the peninsula. Navigation is aided by a light positioned on the small island at the harbour entrance. Mariners should be aware that this coastal area of Crete experiences sudden and violent wind conditions. The harbour channel is narrow and clearly marked with buoys for safe passage. When approaching, vessels must head straight toward the entrance as submerged rocks lie on both sides. The passage between the island and mainland should be avoided due to shallow waters. South winds can significantly complicate both harbour entry and departure maneuvers.
