Description

Port Astakos is a town pier in Astakos, Western Greece, Greece, located at coordinates 38.532626°N, 21.081722°E. Harbor at N end of inlet, partially protected from W by long breakwater. Shelter and Weather: Good shelter in prevailing winds BUT bay COMPLETELY OPEN S - seek shelter elsewhere in strong southerlies. Breakwater filled with ABANDONED yachts and fish farm vessels. Mooring: ONLY berthing option: short quay section. Breakwater inside + first 100m quay filled with laid-up vessels/fish farm boats. Yacht berths: 30-40m section (up to 6 yachts) between small craft moorings and fishing/ferry quay. Depths 4.5-5.0m, good mud holding. Mooring rings DODGY - not confidence-inspiring in extreme weather. Good shelter W/NW winds BUT severe mountain gusts possible. Southerlies cause uncomfortable slop, untenable in strong southerlies. Summer: sometimes UNPLEASANT SEWAGE SMELLS. Full quay: moor alongside fishing/ferry quay edge (3.5m depth) OR careful anchor moor (slant anchor to avoid laying over quay yachts). Port police VERY DILIGENT - expect to report and pay ~€5 harbor dues (13m yacht). Settled weather: anchor E bay 6.0-8.0m. Nearby services: ATM, electricity, market, restaurant, water, anchorage. Approach: No hazards EXCEPT Dhragonera islands passage - navigate with care, shallow reefs around islands. Yacht quay at E end, 100m from breakwater root, before fishing/ferry quay. Tip: N inlet harbor with LIMITED yacht space (30-40m, 6 yachts max). Breakwater filled with abandoned boats - neglected appearance. DODGY mooring rings, summer sewage smells, mountain gusts, S exposure (uncomfortable/untenable in southerlies). Diligent port police (~€5 dues). The limited space, abandoned boats, dodgy rings, sewage smells, and weather restrictions make this challenging, less appealing stop.
