Anchorage

Description

Port Leone is an extensive bay with various anchoring berths and is often described as a natural harbour because it is well protected from most winds. Vessels with a low draught can moor directly at the semi‑derelict pier in the ghost village of Leone, though there are stones in the water in front of the pier and caution is advised. The village was abandoned after the 1953 earthquake destroyed the water supply; only the small church is still looked after. Everything in Leone, including the old olive press, is freely accessible and can be visited.
