Description

Palea Kameni in South Aegean, Greece, is the smaller of two volcanic islands of Santorini and a popular sight. A small ferry ride takes you around the dormant volcanoes. The island has hot springs with green water that can stain clothes; the water gets hot in the afternoon so morning is better. The last eruption was perhaps in the Minoan era. Palea Kameni has a surface area of 60 hectares and a maximum elevation of 98.5 meters. It has thin soil in areas used historically for animal feed, with a few goats, wild rabbits and doves living among deep fissures in the lava rock.
