Description

Mikrolimano is one of the finest places in Piraeus and among the most tourist areas in Attica, offering stunning views of the Saronic Gulf. Located on the east side of Piraeus, between Zea and Neo Faliro, this picturesque marina falls under the region of Kastella and captivates visitors with its island-like atmosphere, moored fishing boats, and vibrant waterfront lined with restaurants and cafes. In ancient times, Mikrolimano was known as Port Mounichias, the third and smallest natural harbor of Piraeus. It served as the naval dockyard of ancient Athens and formed part of the wall of Piraeus, featuring jetties, towers, docks and 82 ship sheds. During the Byzantine period, a lighthouse that reportedly existed at its entrance gave the harbor the name Fanari. Under Turkish rule, it became known as Tourkolimano. Later, the port was named Koumoundourou after a villa that stood at its south end, where the Yacht Club of Greece is now located. The current name Mikrolimano was officially introduced in 1967 by order of Aristedes Skylitsis, the mayor of Piraeus at that time. Today, Mikrolimano is synonymous with dining and entertainment, as numerous restaurants, taverns, cafes and bars line its waterfront. The church of Our Lady Mirtidiotissa and the first taverns of Dilaveri Coast mark the entrance to the Mikrolimano area. Following the coastal road with its trendy cafe-bars leads you to the heart of Mikrolimano at Koumoundourou Coast. The scenery features vessels anchored in calm waters, groups of friends enjoying fresh fish and ouzo at beachfront restaurants, and a relaxed, summery atmosphere that defines this vibrant seascape.
