Description

Cala Genovese, Haute-Corse, France, features a Genoese tower built in 1548–1549 for Giacomo Santo Da Mare. It was part of coastal defenses built by the Republic of Genoa between 1530 and 1620 to counter Barbary pirate attacks. The tower was partially destroyed in 1794 by British warships under Horatio Nelson during the French Revolutionary Wars. It is unusually tall with two internal rooms one above the other, similar to the Torra di a Parata near Ajaccio, and it was listed as an official historical monument of France in 1991.
