Anchorage

Description

Antri is the southernmost point of Ithaca. It can be visited only by boat, and the path leading there is rough and long, requiring someone who knows the way. It is rare to arrive in summer and not find at least another boat. Antri is a narrow, leeward bay with a small pebbled beach at its depths. The landscape is lush with bushes and shrubs, but there are no trees for shade on the beach. The mountain slope to the beach is steep and rugged, making the path hard to imagine. During World War II, Antri and its natural protection were used by rebels from Ithaca, Kefalonia and mainland Greece as a hiding place and for planning sabotage.
