Description

Aliki beach, Thasos, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Greece, is a nice anchorage for swimming with mainly sandy bottom and several taverns, sometimes suitable for overnight depending on wind direction. Do not anchor in the swimmers area marked by buoys. Alyki has two gulfs with beaches of pebbles, sand, and crystal waters, used as natural harbors by small fishing boats; the western beach is organized with many taverns serving ouzo, while the eastern beach is quieter, and a nearby peninsula has archaeological interest and is ideal for hiking. Antiquity records mention the kingdom of Alyki, an ancient hamlet with two old paleochristian basilicas and a marble quarry, a possible earthquake evacuation, and a Kouros found in 1896 now in the Istanbul museum.
