Description

Agios Ioannis Beach, Heraklion, Crete, Greece, offers anchorage in front of the beach at about 4 m depth over sand, with protection from west waves and swell. Agios Ioannis is 73 km south of Heraklion, south of Kapetaniana, near the Asterousia Mountains. The beach west of the Ponda peninsula has small pebbles, turquoise waters, and a rocky seabed that is ideal for fishing. It is not organized, but there are a few taverns, a mini market, and some rooms, with camping possible. Nearby beaches include Eligia east of the peninsula with fine pebbles and a small cave, and the Kakopigado well with fresh water.
