Anchorage
Description
Voidokilia Beach in Messinia, Peloponnese, Greece, is known for its distinct omega shape. Visitors come for waves, dunes, soft sand, hiking, and bird watching. Above the beach are Nestor's Cave, ruins of Old Navarino Castle, and the tomb of Thrasymedes from the Mycenaean period. From higher ground you can see the Divari Lagoon of Gialova, Navarino Bay, and the olive-covered Peloponnesian hills. The beach is believed to be mentioned in Homer's Odyssey, where Telemachus was greeted by King Nestor, who is thought to have used it as a port in ancient times.
