Psathoura, Thessaly and Central Greece, Greece, has a beautiful lighthouse on the northern side and swimming on the southern side, but no shelter for overnight stays. Approach the anchorage in front of the beach on the left half with sandy bottom; anchorage to the west of the flat islet is possible on rocky bottom. The remote uninhabited island has one of the tallest lighthouses in the Aegean, built in 1895, 28.9 meters tall, flashing one second every ten seconds, made from dark volcanic stone from Skopelos; the island is more flat than nearby islands, highest point 14 meters, northernmost in the group, with surface 2 km2. Psathoura is volcanic and fertile with a sandy beach where the rare white beach lily grows in early summer, has a sunken city or geological formations at 10 to 17 meters, ruins on the north side, and Neolithic remains on the south and west; a theory links it to ancient Chrysi, a gold-mining town said to have sunk.
