Description

Port Velanidia is a town pier in Velanidia, Peloponnese, Greece, positioned at coordinates 36.486107°N, 23.147578°E. One of PRETTIEST villages in Monemvasia Municipality. Lies in mountain range surrounding Neapoli. White, traditional tiled-roof houses form amphitheatre on slopes of Mt. Krithina with SUPERB view of Myrtoon Sea. History: Founded around 1770 by Spetsiots fleeing island after Orlov Revolt. Skilled seamen settlers soon established relatively LARGE fleet of ocean-going ships and fishing vessels. Activities: NOW peaceful retreat, ideal base for HIKING. Most popular route: path to recently renovated CAPE MALEAS LIGHTHOUSE (built 1860). Hikers can explore historic chapels, most well-known being Aghios Myron. Less energetic visitors: relax on long pebble beach right next to little port. Nearby services: Restaurant, anchorage. Tip: One of PRETTIEST Monemvasia villages - white tiled houses amphitheatre on Mt. Krithina with SUPERB Myrtoon Sea views. Founded 1770 by Spetsiot refugees (Orlov Revolt) who built large ocean-going fleet. NOW peaceful retreat ideal for HIKING - popular route to renovated CAPE MALEAS LIGHTHOUSE (1860), historic Aghios Myron chapel exploration. Long pebble beach at port for relaxation. The prettiness, sea views, Spetsiot maritime history, lighthouse hike, and beach make this scenic, historically rich hiking destination.
