Description

Port Symi is a town pier in Symi, South Aegean, Greece, located at coordinates 36°36'57'' N, 27°50'11'' E. This stunningly beautiful harbor is one of the most photographed in Greece, with pastel-coloured neoclassical houses grouped around the basin, colorful fishing boats, and a vibrant waterfront atmosphere. Symi is equally popular with yachties and land-based tourists. Berthing and Facilities: PUBLIC DOCK equipped by the city. CHARGES: Pay for your place on the public dock PLUS 20 EUR mooring aid (2022). Yachts can moor at NORTHERN SIDE OF THE QUAY. You will often hear a WHISTLE - then the HARBOUR MASTER will assign a berth. When too full, it looks somewhat DISORGANISED but still endearing. Water depths DECLINE RAPIDLY - you have to LET OUT A LOT OF CHAIN. The anchorage is DIRTY, some areas are ROCKY with MODERATE HOLD. At the vertex of the harbour bay, anchors can easily GET ENTANGLED in OLD CHAINS and LINES lying on the seabed - exercise caution. WATCH OUT FOR SWELL, sometimes HEAVY, generated by many ferries. Berthing capacity: 50 yachts, max length 30m, max draft 2.5m. Small ouzerias where you can enjoy ouzo accompanied by soft bouzouki sounds. Many taverns, bars, and various small food stores lined up along waterfront. Excellent facilities: ATM, car rental, diving center, electricity, gas station, market, restaurants, water. Phone: +30 224 607 1205. The town is famous for its sponge-diving heritage, traditional boat-building, and spectacular neoclassical architecture. Website: www.aegeanislands.gr/islands/symi/. VHF channel not specified. Despite the crowded conditions, the beauty and atmosphere make this a must-visit destination.
