Description

Port Senj is a town pier in Senj, Opčina Senj, Lika-Senj County, Croatia, located at coordinates 44°59'27'' N, 14°53'57'' E. This historic port is infamous for the BURA wind - one of the most dangerous locations in the Adriatic for this fierce katabatic wind that can reach hurricane strength, making it a challenging and potentially unsafe port during Bura conditions. Berthing and Facilities: The harbor is OPEN TO THE NORTHWEST. For mooring yachts, the WALLED COAST BETWEEN THE TWO PIERS is the most favorable. When docking next to the MARIJA ART BREAKWATER, pay attention to the PROTRUDING UNDERWATER PART of the coast - navigation hazard. For the south, it is best to TIE UP with the SV. NICHOLAS. Berthing capacity: 100 yachts, max length 25m, max draft 13.7m. Market and restaurants available. Website: lucka-uprava-senj.hr/places/croatia/licko-senjska-zupanija/senj/luke/luka-senj/. WARNING - BURA WIND: BURA IS THE MOST DANGEROUS WIND, and here it can blow SURPRISINGLY QUICKLY AND STRONGLY, in HURRICANE STRENGTH, mostly from the ENE direction. Therefore, STAYING IN THE PORT IS UNSAFE during Bura conditions. The OMENS ARE STORMY: CLEAR AND BLUE SKY over the port, but DENSE WHITE CLOUDS with a CLEARLY DEFINED HORIZONTAL EDGE ABOVE VELEBIT mountain. Sometimes SMALL CLOUDS ARE SEPARATED from this white cloud, which the storm CARRIES TOWARDS THE SOUTH-WEST - these are classic Bura warning signs. When you see these conditions, leave immediately or do not enter. GOOD ANCHORAGES AND SHELTERS IN THE VICINITY: Spasovac (1M south), Jelena (1M north) - seek these refuges when Bura threatens. Senj is historically famous as the windiest town in Croatia, home of the fearsome Bura that can exceed 200 km/h. The town features the impressive Nehaj Fortress and rich Uskoks pirate history. VHF channel not specified. CRITICAL: Monitor weather closely and leave port if Bura signs appear.
