Capital port of Alonnisos with exceptional character built post-1965 earthquake. Port Conditions: SMALL, BEAUTIFUL and WELL-PROTECTED harbor. Watch out for BIG ROCKS in water at NORTH PIER! Serious underwater hazard requiring careful navigation at north pier. Entrance Warning: Entrance is NARROW - CHECK before maneuvering that HUGE FERRY not arriving. Narrow entrance combined with large ferry traffic requires careful timing coordination. Utilities: Buy CARD for electricity and water from MACHINE just by port. Automated prepaid card system at portside machine. Historical Background: Patitiri is CAPITAL and MAIN PORT of Alonnisos. RELATIVELY NEWBORN VILLAGE built by inhabitants of Chora who LEFT due to EARTHQUAKE 1965. This explains why houses are WELL-MAINTAINED with beautiful flower balconies and colorful verandas - newly built post-earthquake settlement. Architecture: Buildings on hill slopes offer UNIQUE HARMONY. Tourist infrastructure DISCRETE and RESPECTS natural beauty. Narrow whitewashed streets and stairs create particular atmosphere. Harbor surrounded by INCREDIBLY CRYSTALLINE EMERALD WATERS and rocky marble formations well ILLUMINATED during night. Natural Setting: Whole village SURROUNDED by DENSE PINE FOREST.
