Peninsula of Methana with two steep volcanic slopes is ACTUALLY A VOLCANO that emerged from sea! WARNING - Port Differentiation: Necessary to differentiate between NEW PORT and OLD PORT. OLD PORT: Berths public/municipal BUT assigned to private - PERMIT REQUIRED before entering. FORBIDDEN to use anchor (buoys present). Do NOT accept catamarans. Maximum length 45 feet. NEW PORT: equipped with electricity and water. Nearby services: Market, restaurant. Volcanic Peninsula: Stunning volcanic landscape with dense vegetation, coastal villages, diverse flora/fauna. Spa complex established 1870 - popular spa town attracting mainly senior citizens from many European countries. Route to fishing village Agios Georgios and Baths of Pausanias (hot springs), or follow ancient historian Pausanias' footsteps to ancient city Méthana. Paleókastro village: remains of classical acropolis walls/gates (rest fell into sea due to volcanic eruption). Peninsula boasts approximately 32 VOLCANOES. Climbing largest crater TRULY CHALLENGING - 25min climb from Kameni Hora to volcano lip. Step on solid red lava flows, views of savage black/red/green crags and sharp abysses. Volcanic beaches: Nissaki Agion Anargiron, Limnionas, Vathy. Tip: CRITICAL - differentiate OLD PORT (permit required, no catamarans, max 45ft, no anchor/buoys, assigned berths) vs NEW PORT (electricity/water). Peninsula ACTUALLY VOLCANO from sea! Stunning volcanic landscape with 32 volcanoes. 1870 spa complex attracts European seniors. Routes: Agios Georgios fishing village, Pausanias hot springs, ancient Méthana city. Paleókastro acropolis ruins (rest into sea from eruption). Largest crater climb TRULY CHALLENGING (25min, red lava flows, savage crags/abysses views). Volcanic beaches. The 32-volcano peninsula, challenging crater climb, hot springs, and old port restrictions make this geologically extraordinary but complex destination.
