Description

Port Mastichari is a town pier in Mastichari, Kos, South Aegean, Greece, located at coordinates 36°51'6'' N, 27°4'36'' E. This challenging port on the northern coast of Kos serves as the ferry connection to Kalymnos, but presents significant navigational difficulties for visiting yachts due to surrounding shoals and limited depths. Berthing and Facilities: PORT SURROUNDED BY SHOALS - extreme caution required during approach. You MUST ARRIVE PERPENDICULAR TO THE MOLE and go around 30m - precise navigation essential. In the PASS: 2.4 METERS of water - this limits access to shallow-draft vessels only. NO PLACE TO MOOR on the outside platform, and the REST IS NOT DEEP ENOUGH for most yachts. This port is primarily designed for ferries and local fishing boats, not for visiting yachts. Limited berthing opportunities make this an unsuitable destination for most cruising yachts. Mastichari village offers good tourist facilities including car rental, markets, and restaurants on the waterfront. The town is known for its long sandy beach and traditional character. However, due to the difficult port access and lack of suitable berthing, yachts are better advised to anchor in nearby bays or proceed to alternative ports on Kos such as Kos Marina or other anchorages. The ferry to Kalymnos operates regularly from this port. VHF channel not specified. Important: Survey the approach carefully and only attempt entry with suitable draft and calm conditions.
