Description
Port de la Croix in Hoëdic, Bretagne, France, has a history of repeated English takeovers and a fort now owned by the Conservatoire du littoral. The 2.5 km long island has fragile dunes, flora like Jersey pinks and sand lilies, and historical remains. Between 1815 and 1892 the island was self-governed under the Hoëdic Charter. Port de la Croix was rebuilt by the population after a storm. Since 1973 the island has Port d’Argol on the north coast, and in 2012 pontoons were installed to provide new moorings for boaters.
