Description

Poros Marina on Kefalonia offers mooring facilities along the southeastern side of the harbour, with the yacht quay clearly marked by yellow paint along its edge. The quay provides berthing space for approximately 15 to 20 yachts, with water depths varying from 4.0 metres at the northern end to 2.25 metres at the southern end. Yachts anchor moor at this quay, where the seabed consists of soft mud providing good holding once the anchor is properly set, though sailors should be prepared to make two or three attempts to ensure secure anchoring. The quay offers moderate shelter from the prevailing northwest winds, but conditions can become uncomfortable when stronger winds create reflected swell, though the situation rarely becomes untenable. An alternative mooring option exists at the breakwater, where careful navigation allows yachts to lie alongside or anchor moor to the outer half during busy periods. The inner half of the breakwater features rock ballasting along its length, requiring sailors who choose to anchor moor here to take lines ashore using their dinghy. The breakwater quay stands very high above water level, with limited mooring infrastructure consisting of only a few staples and cleats positioned along the sides and top. The most convenient berthing position is alongside the steps, which provides easier access for boarding and disembarking from yachts. This location in the Ionian Islands serves as a practical mooring point for vessels navigating the waters around Kefalonia, offering basic anchoring facilities with natural seabed holding in the harbour's protected waters.
