Description

Plataria Marina is a small harbour situated in the north-east of Ormos Plataria on the Greek mainland in the Epirus region. This compact facility features a breakwater constructed in 2011, where visiting yachts can moor stern-to. The harbour provides shelter for yachts during prevailing north or north-westerly winds up to force 8-9, making it a reliable stopover for sailors navigating the Ionian coast. The breakwater design includes an unusually low end section, with approximately half of it remaining submerged even under normal weather conditions. During strong winds, waves occasionally crash over the breakwater, and the outer third section can flood during sustained northwest winds or low-pressure systems. Visiting yachts typically berth stern-to or bows-to at the quay using their anchors, with mooring secured to bollards or existing mooring rings. Water depths at the quay measure around 4 meters, accommodating most recreational vessels. The inner section of the breakwater is predominantly occupied by local boats on laid moorings and yachts under long-term care arrangements. As a result, only the outer third of the breakwater remains available for visiting yachts seeking temporary berths. Space allocation operates on a first-come basis, with yachts securing positions wherever space permits. The breakwater end serves as a working area for local fishing boats and should be avoided by visiting vessels. Basic marina services include water and electricity connections available for a modest fee. The village of Plataria offers several taverns and shopping amenities within walking distance of the harbour, providing convenient access to provisions and local cuisine. Beyond the harbour facilities, Plataria features an extensive sandy beach adjacent to the marina. The beach stretches along the coastline, offering safe swimming conditions suitable for families with children. The water clarity in this area is notably high, creating ideal conditions for swimming and water activities. The combination of harbour facilities, village amenities, and beach access makes Plataria a practical stop for cruising yachts exploring the Epirus coastline and nearby Ionian islands.
