Description

Monemvasia Marina is a small fishing harbor located approximately one mile south of the castle. This facility operates without permanent staff assistance, so visiting sailors should be prepared for self-service mooring. The marina has undergone infrastructure changes, with the former pole mooring system replaced by a concrete quay oriented west-east. The inner harbor accommodates vessels up to 40 feet (12 meters) in length. Larger monohulls and catamarans must moor on the outside of the concrete quay due to space limitations. The holding ground in front of the marina consists of sand with scattered rocky patches, providing reasonable anchoring conditions. However, the anchorage area features predominantly rock patches with poor holding quality, making it less reliable for secure anchoring. Mooring is available on the south dock where water depth reaches 4 meters. Sailors should exercise caution when entering the marina, particularly watching for rocks on the left side at the entrance. No mooring ropes are provided at the facility, and no staff will be present to assist with docking or collect mooring fees immediately upon arrival. While anchoring and backing up to the dock is possible, the seabed contains various debris that may compromise anchor security, especially during strong Meltemi winds. An alternative mooring method involves swimming underwater to attach your rope to cement blocks positioned at 4.5 meters depth. Water supply is available at the marina. The harbor is frequented by sea turtles. A mooring charge applies for using the facility. The historic old town of Monemvasia is located nearby and accessible for visiting sailors.
