Description

Messolonghi Marina is a modern deep water marina located in Western Greece, situated in the centre of a protected lagoon area. The marina operates under international management and meets all international and national environmental and marina standards. The facility is positioned near the Ionian islands of Zakynthos, Kefalonia, and Lefkas, the Peloponnese, and on the route to the Corinth canal. The marina is accessible through a three kilometer long entrance canal that measures 50 meters wide and 8 meters deep. The marina itself maintains a minimum depth of 4.5 meters throughout, making it suitable for both sailing boats and motor yachts of various sizes. The protected location within the lagoon ensures the marina is not exposed to swell or high waves, creating a very safe environment for moored vessels. All boats can be safely moored during wintertime due to the sheltered conditions. The marina offers magnificent views of the vast water expanse and the majestic mountains that surround the area. The unique location in this undiscovered part of Greece provides access to a very special lagoon environment that is rare to find elsewhere. The town of Messolonghi is located just a short 15-minute walk from the marina. The town provides various supermarkets, all types of shops, and restaurants for provisioning and dining. Messolonghi is known as the Holy city, having earned this name due to the heroic behaviour of its inhabitants during the independence fight against the Turkish occupiers in the 19th Century. The town features various monuments and museums that showcase its rich political history. The Messolonghi lagoon represents one of the most important wetlands in Europe. These protected wetlands are home to more than 270 species of birds, amphibians, reptiles, swamp turtles, and sea turtles. The wetlands and surrounding seas are protected under the Ramsar Convention, an international treaty for wetland conservation. Just minutes away from the marina are natural mud and salt spas, considered among the best kept secrets in Europe. Every season, thousands of Greeks visit these facilities to take refreshing and healing mineral mud or salt baths. The seawater in the region has increased salinity due to the microclimate of the area. Swimming in this mineral-rich water provides significant relief to aching muscles and joints, offering therapeutic benefits to visitors.
