Description

Mandraki Marina on Oinousses island offers a large natural harbour with comprehensive all-round shelter, enhanced by protective infrastructure including a rubble breakwater, a natural sand bar connecting three islands on the western side, and two concrete breakwaters on the eastern side. The harbour entrance is located on the east side, where vessels pass the mermaid landmark to port and follow a dog leg course between the breakwaters. Mariners should avoid the narrow channel at the northwest end of the harbour, as it remains shallow and is reserved exclusively for small fishing boats. The marina provides multiple mooring configurations to accommodate visiting yachts. At the northwest end, a long concrete jetty features a yacht club at its base and can accommodate approximately twelve yachts on anchor moor, with options for stern-to or bows-to berthing. Water depths at this location measure around 3.0 metres, shoaling to approximately 2.5 metres toward the jetty's end. Additional mooring is available alongside the adjacent quay immediately east of the jetty, where 2-3 yachts can berth in 3.0 metres depth before reaching the fishing boat moorings. Yachts can also moor alongside the large ferry jetty at the root of the northern breakwater, provided they remain clear of the southern end where the ferry berths. This location accommodates a further 3-4 yachts with depths ranging from 4.0 to 5.0 metres. For those preferring to anchor, the harbour is sufficiently spacious to anchor off in 4.0 to 5.0 metres, with good holding in mud and sand bottom. The harbour provides excellent shelter from all directions. Electricity and water connections are available on the quay, though the operational card required for these services can only be purchased in Chios. Some water stations occasionally provide water free of charge.
