Description

Veerhaven Rotterdam is a historic marina located in Rotterdam, Netherlands, serving as home port to a historic fleet while welcoming visiting vessels. The marina requires advance registration for all visiting boats through telephone contact at 0624351927 or email at havenmeester@veerhavenrotterdam.nl. Upon entering the port, sailors must call the harbor master to receive berth assignment. The marina accommodates vessels up to 20-25 meters in length depending on port occupancy. When navigating the river approach, vessels must keep to starboard and monitor VHF channels of the traffic control system. Sailing is permitted on the river, but tacking is prohibited and engines must be ready for immediate use. Boats intending to enter Veerhaven must report via Sector Maasbruggen on VHF channel 81, particularly when approaching from the west and crossing the river. The marina entrance experiences significant tidal currents reaching up to 3 km/h or 1.5 knots during ebb and flood conditions. Flood current typically runs from approximately 2 hours before high water in Rotterdam until approximately 1 hour after high water. There is minimal slack water during tide changes, and a noticeable downdraft may occur at the entrance. Larger vessels are advised to approach the port against the current by going around. Mariners must remain vigilant for outgoing traffic when entering the port and should ensure good visibility before proceeding. The water taxi service to Hotel New York operates from a berth that is often obscured by moored vessels, requiring extra caution. Navigation behind the eastern green harbor light is not recommended due to current conditions and limited visibility. The recommended speed limit within the port is approximately 4 km/h. The harbor master coordinates all berth assignments and manages port operations to ensure safe and efficient use of available space.
