Anchorage

Description

Isola Piana can be reached by a short sea crossing from Calasetta, Carloforte, or Portoscuso, and has a marina for pleasure boats. The island is a nature reserve with no cars, motorcycles, or bicycles to protect nesting Eleonora’s falcon, royal gull, and plovers. It is small and easy to cross on foot, with clear sea for sailing or fishing, and is self-sufficient in water and electricity with recycling of purified water for gardens. Its history is tied to tuna fishing, with licenses granted in the late 17th century and later activity ending in 1964, before a luxury residence was created in 1975.
