Description
Gerolimenas Bay in Mani, Peloponnese, Greece, is described as a narrow and sheltered port in a bare bay near Cavo Grosso. During Ottoman rule up to the 1870s, it was a refuge for Greek pirates. The village developed around 1870 with the first shop, houses, and three towers, and later a commercial port and shops selling fish, fish products, and ice. Today Gerolimenas has about 50 inhabitants, with hotels, taverns, and cafes open all year. The road is paved but narrow, and it is 50 km from Gythio and almost 100 km from Sparta.
