Cliff Bay - Ionian Islands - Atokos - Greece Anchorage in Peloponnese, Western Greece and the Ionian

Cliff Bay is one of the two key anchorages on Atokos, a small Greek island in the Ionian Sea off Acarnania and one of the most westerly Echinades. Atokos lies 9 km northeast of Ithaca and 8 km southwest of Kastos, just northeast of the main Brindisi–Patras shipping channel, and its southwestern end shows steep cliffs. Safe anchorage is advisable only in calm weather, with Cliff Bay on the south coast and One House Bay on the east coast. The latter is preferred for shelter from northwest winds and better access, but Cliff Bay remains the southern anchorage option in calm conditions. Atokos is privately owned by Panayiotis Tsakos and is uninhabited except for a few goats tended by a shepherd who visits every fourth day. Visitors may land on the island. A small chapel near the beach at One House Bay is open and well maintained, reached by a short path past the island’s well and brackish water; the simple two‑story house that names One House Bay lies on another short path and is locked but habitable, used by the owners who sometimes visit in September.
