Description

ACI Marina Veljko Barbieri Slano is the newest marina in the ACI chain, strategically positioned in the spacious Slano Bay on the northern shore of the Koločepski channel. Named after Veljko Barbieri, the creator of the ACI marina chain, this modern facility serves as an ideal starting point for cruising the Elaphite islands and visiting Dubrovnik. The marina is located in the northeast part of Slano harbor, which extends one nautical mile into the land. This natural bay has been recognized as an excellent shelter for boats since antiquity, offering protection from all winds. For active visitors, a 50-kilometre bicycle trail runs along Dubrovnik's shore, providing opportunities for cycling enthusiasts. The marina's location provides easy access to several notable destinations in the Elaphite archipelago. Lopud, situated approximately 10 nautical miles from Slano, is a small town on the island of the same name, surrounded by lush vegetation. Known as the cradle of Dubrovnik navigation, Lopud features the popular bay of Šunj. Koločep, the last inhabited island of the South Adriatic, lies a few miles eastward and includes the settlements of Donje and Gornje Čelo. Sailors approaching ACI Marina Veljko Barbieri enter Slano harbor through a 340-meter-long passage between Gornji and Donji cape. The Donji cape, marking the western point of the bay, features a lighthouse with characteristics C Bl 3s 16m 4M. The harbor light is positioned on the local boardwalk, 150 meters northwest of the marina. From the harbor entrance, vessels sail on a northeast course to reach the marina berths. Water depths throughout the marina are suitable for safe navigation, ranging mostly between 10 and 35 meters. Shallower areas near the shores have a minimum depth of five meters. The Koločepski channel, protected by the succession of Elaphite islands, can be accessed through several passages. From west to east, these include Mali Vratnik between the Pelješac peninsula and islet Olipa, Veliki Vratnik between Olipa and island Jakljan, and Passage Harpoti between islands Jakljan and Šipan. Further east are the Doors of Lopud between islands Šipan and Lopud, the Doors of Koločep between Lopud and Koločep, and Velika Vrata (Big Doors), which represents the southernmost entrance to the channel. This network of passages provides multiple routing options for vessels navigating the area, allowing sailors to choose their approach based on weather conditions and destination. The marina's position in Slano Bay combines natural protection with convenient access to the broader cruising grounds of the southern Dalmatian coast.
