A ghost village next to mountains of silver slag and fascinating ruins of a distant mining epic, today an innovative open-air museum. But also cliffs overlooking clear waters, spectacular coves and white sandy expanses, places where you can alternate relaxation on the beach with hiking explorations. It is the scenery of Argentiera , a hamlet of Sassari - from which it is 43 kilometers away (first along the state road 291 and then provincial 18) - once a thriving village and main mining district of northern Sardinia, thanks to rich deposits of zinc and silver lead, known since ancient times. Today it is one of the most evocative industrial archeology sites in Europe, an integral part of the Sardinian geo- mining park, as well as a placid seaside resort, halfway between Alghero , Stintino and Porto Torres , never crowded, not even in the height of summer. Few peasant families live in the village all year round.
