Description
Punta Marinello in Messina, Sicily, Italy, includes the Laghetti di Marinello nature reserve in the municipality of Patti. The reserve covers over 400 hectares and was established in 1998. Under the promontory of the Sanctuary of Tindari, the lagoon area undergoes morphological changes that create brackish coastal lakes. Sand and gravel transport is due to deepening of the seabed by the Tyrrhenian Sea. The origin of the lakes dates to 1877, and there are several caves on the facing walls.
